Christmas Survey

1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?
I like to use wrapping paper and bows if the gift is in a nice "wrapping shape". All those odd shaped gifts are demoted to bags...

2. Real tree or Artificial?
We have a small artifical tree that fits perfectly in our little apartment… but someday when we have a house I would like to have a real tree. I love the smell of them!

3. When do you put up the tree?
Anytime after Thanksgiving, usually that following weekend.

4. When do you take the tree down?
The week after Christmas... around the 2nd of Jan. After New Years all the holiday “magic” is done and I usually want things back to normal and ready to “take on January”.

5. Do you like egg nog?
I LOVE it!! My favorite is mixing it with Sprite J

6. Favorite gift received as a child?
A Cabbage Patch doll with long hair, a pacifier, and a carrier. I know “Santa” had a hard time finding exactly what I wanted but he did an excellent job!

7. Do you have a nativity scene?
I didn’t until Mom Jensen started giving me the Willow Tree nativity for Christmas’s. It’s my favorite nativity and I hope to collect all of it eventually.

8. Hardest person to buy for?
Lance and my parents

9. Easiest person to buy for?
Bethany

10. Mail or email Christmas cards?
Mail... I love getting Christmas cards in the mail. I like to display them on the counter. I usually send mine in the mail but this year it’s not looking like I’m going to get around to it.

11.Worst Christmas gift you ever received?
I can't remember ever "hating" a gift...

12. Favorite Christmas movie?

White Christmas

13. When do you start shopping for Christmas?
Anytime after Thanksgiving...Unfortunately this year we are already done… I like having Christmas shopping to look forward to…although Christmas is sneaking up on us as it is… almost 2 weeks left.

14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?
Not that I can remember...although not a bad idea (just kidding)

15. Favorite things to eat at Christmas?
Gingerbread cookies, egg nog, sugar cookies, chocolate dipped pretzels, popcorn snack mix, etc. I really love it all!

16. Clear lights or colored on the tree?
Colored… it reminds me of Christmas’s past…. very traditional

17. Favorite Christmas song?
Too many to list: "Chestnuts Roasting", "O Holy Night", "The First Noel", "Breath of Heaven" , and the list goes on...

18. Travel at Christmas or stay home?
I always thought it would be fun to travel home for Christmas…and then I packed every suitcase I own, car seat, diaper bag, toddler, and husband and did it last year! Wow! What a hassle. Whenever I get sad about being away from home this year I remember the “traveling” and feel grateful that my family is coming to me this year. Hopefully some day we will live close enough to family to only have to hop in the car and drive a few minutes, without having to pack up the house first.

19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeers?
Donner, Dasher, Prancer, Comet, Cupid, Vixen, Blitzen, Dancer, Rudolph

20. Angel on the tree top or a star?
This year I bought a red bow that seems to work for the top of the tree.

21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning?
I can’t really call it morning when we usually get up around 10ish. We usually don’t open presents until around 11ish. Last year we actually didn’t open presents until 6pm. That was a bit weird. This year I’m sure we’ll hit the presents whenever I can roust Em out of bed…not an easy feat!

22 . Most annoying thing about this time of year?
I hate that the store start advertising and setting up Christmas stuff BEFORE Halloween. It really bothers me that Thanksgiving gets overlooked so often. As with most people who try to focus on the spiritual side of Christmas, the REAL reason we celebrate, I think Christmas is too commercialized.

23. Favorite dessert after Christmas dinner?
Trifle... hands down...made by my dad !!!

24. What do you want for Christmas this year?

A healthy baby and a stress free delivery! I prefer this present to be three weeks late :)

25. Old fashioned lights or icicle lights on your house?
Old fashioned colored lights

26. Where have you had the opportunity to serve others in the community this Christmas? This year I have had the opportunity to watch my friends kids while they run errands, Brown Santa (we're doing this for a mutual activity... wrapping presents that have been donated by the community), we made ornaments and hygiene baskets for the homebound people in our ward in Relief Society and mutual, I am putting together the gifts for the mutual girls this year...
I need to be more willing to help those in need though... Sometimes I get so caught up in what "I" need to get done that I forget to help others.

I am so glad to see that there is someone else who opens presents Christmas "afternoon!" I just might have to try your egg nog idea. Gosh darn it, they had it on sale at Harmons, so I called Nathan and we both said "Nah, not a huge eggnog fan. It's too rich,so don't get it" Anyway, I am impressed. You can name all of the reindeer in an order that is different from the way they are in the song!

Rach,
I think you forgot, your favorite desert is trifle. That is if you want to claim being my daughter.
Love,
Dad
