I LOVE the holidays! December is such a fun month. After I give Thanksgiving the proper enthusiasm and honor I am always excited to move onto Christmas. There is just something in the air around Christmas time that make me happy! Here are just a few things that make my holiday season "merry"...
- Christmas shopping
I decided to start and finish early this year because I can't seem to find the energy to keep going for more than an hour or two at a time... must be the beach ball I'm hauling around :)
- Christmas music
As soon as Thanksgiving is over I officially break out the Christmas cd's and enjoy listening to them over and over... recently we bought the Tabernacle Choir Christmas on itunes. It's awesome!
- Christmas decorations
It seems that Beth shares this love, as she makes sure the Christmas tree lights are on at all times. Of course the candy dish with peanut M&M's in it is a hit as well... not a good time for me to be munchy!
- Christmas lessons
I love talking about the birth of the Savior and singing the Christmas hymns at church during December. Mutual activities also take on a new excitement, as we are usually serving others.
- Christmas planning
This one takes on a new meaning this year as I will be hosting my own family at my house this year for Christmas. I am planning fun meals and activities and looking forward to starting some new traditions as a family.
-Cleaning
No, you didn't read this wrong. This year I am excited to go through my apartment and do a "super clean" before my family comes at the end of the month and before the baby comes next month. I am already getting stoked about organizing my cupboards and closets:)
-Christmas goodies
What would the holiday season be without good things to eat! I love thinking of all the good treats there are to make, and eat, and I'm looking forward to trying some new recipes.
What things do you look forward to at Christmas?
Last week my visiting teacher and I talked about the "Good, Better, Best" talk Dallon H. Oaks gave in Conference. We talked about how during the Christmas season we can get caught up in doing shopping (which is good) and service and gifts (which is better). Something that I am trying to do this season is focusing on the best option.... Christ. I would like to focus on remembering His sacrifice and His birth instead of getting side tracked with all the holiday bustle. I have found that just by listening to the Mormon Tab. Christmas cd during the week instead of the popular radio stations and their Christmas music the spirit is in our home more. And of course when the spirit is more dominate in our home I find it so much easier to be kind, loving, and patient with Beth (which is getting harder as I get bigger and she gets older).
It is also fun teaching and talking to Beth about baby Jesus. She loves the story of the "mommy and daddy" and "baby Jesus" and the "star". I think having kids during Christmas only makes it more special. I can't wait to share the spirit of Christmas, the lights, the goodies, and the presents with Beth. She loves looking (and touching) the tree and absolute can't get enough of "Frosty the Snowman" on utube.
I hope y'all enjoy this season as much as I do.

your blog gets me all kinds of excited for all things christmas! and it also makes me wanna clean my closets and cupboards!
You never change Rach - like your love for cleaning! Boy, do I miss you!! I think Christmas is definitely more meanful when you have kids. You are going to have so much fun having your family for Christmas. It's so fun to plan and get ready for it. Can't wait to hear all about it.
Shopping is fun around christmas time! However I think my favorite thing to do is decorate my house for the holidays! I love getting cozy in a warm blanket with all of the lights off except for the christmas tree and dozing off! Thank you for sharing that beautiful message! Happy cleaning! ps I put the carpenters song on my blog for you, for some reason the carpenters remind me of you when i hear them!
OK Rach, I think the nesting instinct has hit you in full force if you're that excited to clean! Though I guess we all get in moods to do strange things sometimes.... sounds like you are having lots of fun with Beth and the holidays. I totally hear you. I NEVER break out the the Christmas music or want a tree up the day after Thanksgiving, but something about having a little person who is new to the holidays just changes everything!
I agree! A great post-- fun to read.
