A week and a half ago I lost one of my dearest friends to cancer. Susan had been fighting cancer for 7 years. In the last year it had spread from her breast to her lungs, finally infecting her brain.
Susan was one of the most amazing women I have ever met. Despite her "bumps in the road" as she once called them she was ALWAYS happy and upbeat. She was positive and a joy to be around. She was always willing and wanting to serve others. Several days before her passing she actually called ME to see how I was doing and how MY doctor's appointment was (Ophthalmologist).
A couple years ago I had the opportunity of watching Rachel, Susan's 3 year old, everyday for a few months while Susan went to Houston for chemo and radiation. Beth and Rach became fast friends, while Susan and I grew closer as well. After that opportunity Susan and I visited through visiting teaching, she threw me a baby shower when I was expecting Izzy, we shared and enjoyed countless books together, she watched Beth for us when Lance and I went to Dallas for a few days, and she became one of my closest friends, who I looked forward to visiting with whenever I got a chance.
I was unable to attend Susan's funeral because I was out of town but heard it was beautiful. Needless to say I wanted to be there for closure but wasn't sorry I had to miss sitting through the extrmely emotional service.
To all of you who knew Susan let's always remember what a great example she was to us of a positive attitude, charity, love, kindness, a sense of humor, and a truly Christ-llike mother and wife.
What a blessing it is to know we will see her again someday :)
